Too Aggressive With Opening New Credit Accounts

My mistake, when it comes to credit, is that I sought too much credit too quickly. Going from zero accounts to twelve in less than two years has landed me in the position where the credit agencies consider me a risk when it comes to opening new accounts. The only remedy is to let my existing accounts age until they collectively reach an average of 2 years. A downstream problem is that Chase credit cards have the 5/24 rule, meaning that you can not have opened more than five new credit cards in the prior 24 months. Otherwise, it is an automatic denial for a new account. This is significant because there are only a handful of credit cards that are worthwhile getting to take advantage of travel perks. Of those cards, American Express and Chase are the top providers. Other banks have decent credit cards with travel perks considered to be lower in overall value. Why We Can't Accumulate Travel Rewards

A curious thing has been happening to our travel miles and hotel points. We keep spending them on unplanned travel. The unplanned travel is mostly the result of family emergencies and family events out of town. I mentioned this on a Facebook group recently, to which somebody retorted that it's what the points are for, they don't earn interest by saving them. Unfortunately, by depleting our travel rewards, it means that we do not have a giant stash of miles and points to help pay for fun travel, at least not very much of it. Yet, for those unexpected travel arrangements, we have had to make, the points and miles have been a blessing. They have provided us with comfortable lodging and one-way flights home. Annual Texas Folklife Festival

While visiting San Antonio earlier this month, Alma and I decided to explore the Texas Folklife Festival, which is held in the UTSA Hemisfair Campus around the Institute of Texan Cultures. The Texas Folklife Festival certainly is a great introduction to the grounds of the Institute of Texan Cultures. You would be well served to revisit the campus on a normal business day for a more leisurely and deeper experience. To get there, we called on an Uber driver. She was not too certain about where exactly to drop us off. She drove around the area to find the best spot, which looked like an entrance. We entered through what turned out to be the rear entrance. Later, when we got the map, we learned that there was indeed a designated pick up and drop off location for Uber and Lyft. Understandably, the organizers could not be expected to notify all the drivers about this. Perhaps they could have designed wayfinding signage to direct drivers.
